Jack O'Brien 1921-2011
Mr. O'Brien was the father of our friends Pat, Mike, Kathy and Mary Lou.

 

John Henry (Jack) O'Brien, a retired Manager of Garages for SCE, passed away in Lake San Marcos, California on February 1, 2011 at the age of 89.

Previously of St. Paul, Minnesota and Fullerton, California, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dodie; his brother, Gerald O'Brien, and his parents, Dewey and Henrietta O'Brien.

Jack was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on August 9, 1921. He graduated from St. Thomas Military Academy in St. Paul. Jack joined the National Guard while going to college but was activated into the Army in 1939. He was in the service until 1945 finishing as a pilot of B-24's.

Jack married Dodie, a secretary, in 1944 and raised three children. Jack and Dodie, his wife of 66 years, retired to Lake San Marcos where they enjoyed many wonderful years together. Jack played softball until he was 88 years old. Jack was a great dancer and loved to socialize at any gathering.

Jack spent the last ten years taking care of this beloved Dodie. He is survived by his sisters, Rita Zoff and Mary Kaye Love, his brother Joe O'Brien. his children, Pat O'Brien of Fullerton, Mike and Kathy O'Brien of Placentia, and Mary Lou and Rick Gallade of Irvine, Ca. She had nine grandchildren (David, Jim, and Jennifer O'Brien. Jay O'Brien, Heather Meurs, and Stephanie O'Brien. Rick, Joe, and Mike Gallade.) and seven great-grandchildren (Dan and Devyn O'Brien. Megan and Jack O'Brien. Ireland and Vaughn Meurs and Olivia O'Brien.)

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 11:00 am at St. Marks Catholic Church in Lake San Marcos, Ca. Reception following the service at the home of Dodie and Jack O'Brien. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Elizabeth Hospice of Escondido.
