Mrs. Joyce H. Nash, 1924-2011

 

Joyce Hollingshead Nash passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2011. She left this life with courage, grace and love.

 

She is survived by her husband of 68 years Albert (Bert) W Nash, her four children Martha Minkler [SHHS ’62], Eileen Landini [SHHS ’64], Paul Nash [SHHS ’67] and Louise Authement [SHHS ’69]; sons-in-law Jeff Minkler and Tom Landini, daughter-in-law Dr. Cynthia Tetley-Nash, six grandchildren, David, Michael & Brian Authement, Nicole Authement Rivera , Justin Nash, Courtney Nash Gardner and great grandson Tyler Authement.

 

Born in Columbus, Nebraska, January 22, 1924, Joyce spent her early years in Pawnee City, Nebraska. At age 18 she moved to California. She and her husband made their first home in Los Angeles. They moved to Fullerton, California where they reared their family. Following retirement, she lived in Phoenix and Cottonwood, Arizona. Bravely battling Alzheimer’s disease, Joyce lived her final years in Phoenix and Scottsdale.

 

A devoted Mother and wife, Joyce was also an accomplished musician and for years donated her time playing piano and organ for LDS church services, weddings and nursing homes. An avid reader & pilot, Joyce also enjoyed gardening, painting, and knitting. She was an active member of the Fullerton Ninety-Nines Organization of Women’s Pilots and flew in Powder Puff Derby national competitions.

 

A Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, January 22, 2011, 2:00 pm, Best Funeral Services, 501 E Dunlap Ave., Phoenix. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to: Women’s Relief Society, Mountain View Ward Mormon Church, Cottonwood, AZ, Hospice of the Valleys, Scottsdale, AZ or Banner Alzheimer’s Foundation, Phoenix, AZ.
