Mr. Bill McAfee, Sr. 1927-2006

William H. "Bill," McAfee passed away December 4, 2006 after a long illness.

He was a devoted family man who is survived by his wife, LaWanda; brother, Donald; three sons, William McAfee Jr, Bruce Kennedy and Michael Kennedy; three grandsons, Jesse Kennedy, Kris Kennedy and Brian Kennedy, and by one great-granddaughter, Haley Kennedy.

Born in Monongahela, Pennsylvania in 1927, Bill worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad stoking the boilers of steam trains that serviced the area. When the railroads converted to diesel power, stokers became obsolete.

In 1955, with his first wife, Margaret, and their son, he followed his brother to Fullerton. Soon after, he began a long and fulfilling career at Kimberly-Clark.

A high school dropout but determined to succeed, he worked his way through the ranks to the position of superintendent which he held until his retirement.

Bill also served as president of the local chapter of his labor union.

Bill married LaWanda Kennedy in 1973. He embraced her sons as a dedicated father and eventually as a proud and loving grandparent and great-grandparent.

After his retirement Bill and Wanda enjoyed traveling throughout the country in their motorhome, taking ocean cruises and entertaining their friends.

Bill McAfee's warm and jovial spirit lifted many hearts and spirits. He was a wonderful family man, always present and loving to his wife, all of his sons and grandsons. His great-granddaughter has been a source of great mutual delight. Bill was an inspiration and set an example with his strength, courage and perseverance.

He will be sorely missed. Services 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 11, 2006 at Eastside Christian Church, 2505 Yorba Linda Blvd, Fullerton, CA.

Published in Orange County Register from Dec. 8 to Dec. 9, 2006.
