Jim Hawley, '65, 1947-2015

 

JAMES R. HAWLEY, born June 27, 1947, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2015 at 7:30 pm in the presence of his loving wife of 31 years, Irene Anne, at Hemet Valley Medical Center.

Jim trained for many years in Fullerton, California to participate in the swimming events of the 1964 and 1968 Olympics and was awarded Lancer of the year at Sunny Hills High School in 1965. He received an AA from Fullerton College and served in the U.S. Army as a Personnel Administration Specialist during the Vietnam War in South Korea. Jim received an honorable discharge in 1970 and continued his studies in business administration and law.

Jim worked at his father's business, Western Gift Distributors, in many capacities. Jim loved music, was a Beatles fan and musicologist, took long walks, knew all the cats and dogs in the neighborhood, enjoyed Bud Light, and had the greatest sense of humor. Everyone misses Jim. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, John and Betty Hawley, brothers-in-law, Don Havard & Denis Stringer, and nephews, Nicholas & Christopher Jay.

He is survived by his wife, Irene, stepdaughters, Angela Genet and Cristina Smith, sister, Carole Havard, brother, Johnny Hawley, sister-in-law, Jean Hunter, and brother-in-law, Milton Stringer. He also leaves amazing nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces living throughout the United States. A family and neighborhood memorial coffee will be held at the Hawley residence from 1pm to 4pm on Sunday, December 20, 2015.
