Kathy Burke Patrick, '65, 1947-2014
Today our friend Barbara Smith Whitfield, '67 sent the message below.

Barb says:

"Our dear friend from high school, Kathy Burke Patrick, passed away Wednesday evening at 11:11 PM with her husband David by her side. They were an inseparable, loving couple and spent an incredible life together. Please keep David and her family in your thoughts during this difficult time. Her brother, Dick Burke, was a classmate of mine since middle school at Nicholas. Her memorial is in the planning. I spoke to Kathy while she was in treatment at Kaiser Hospital in early January. She was positive about her recovery, but she had such an aggressive cancer in her spine that when the tumors would be reduced, they would return with a vengeance. Kathy fought hard for her family and friends and she will be missed dearly. We all loved you, Kathy, and were so glad you came to the SHHS Friends BBQ to reunite with old friends."

I just now heard about Kathy passing. I knew Kathy well in SHHS. I lost track of her after high school but met her at our SHHS 25th (I think)reunion. We hung out a lot that night and I just loved her great personality and enjoying life. Her husband, David was in Asia working if I recall that right.I feel very bad for her family and wish them my feelings. She was too young to leave. RIP

Let me try to get composed. It was terribly emotional for me tonight.

Today I received an update from Kathy Burke's husband, David, on Kathy's current condition with her battle with cancer. David explained today was the first day Kathy has been able to stand for a minute beside her hospital bed. She spent the holidays in the hospital recovering from the chemo treatments. It has been a slow recovery with the tumors shrinking. She has 2 bone narrow donors in line when she gains enough strength to endured the procedure.

I called the hospital to inquire about Kathy's room number to send flowers of get well and to wish her a Happy Birthday today. The operator put the call through to her room and Kathy answered. She sounded so sweet and appreciative of my call and although I was overcome with emotion she assured me there were many prayers in place for her recovery. She especially appreciated Linda Tunstill's concern and prayers.

Much love to you Kathy.
