Obituary for Charles Lloyd Brookhouser, III

Charles (Chuck) Lloyd Brookhouser III, a beloved resident of Visalia, CA, passed away at the age of 77 on June 25, 2023 after a courageous battle with declining health. Born on June 18, 1946, in Huntington Park, California, Charles was the son of Charles and Mary Jane Brookhouser. It was during his senior year of high school that he met and courted his future wife Joyce.

He completed his education at Sunny Hills High School in Fullerton, graduating in 1964. He then pursued his passion for Forestry, studying in Susanville, CA, and concurrently enlisted in the Marine Corps while attending college in Fullerton.

Charles proudly served his country as a US Marine Corps Veteran during the Vietnam War from February 1966 to February 1972. His dedication and bravery were recognized with The Purple Heart for injuries sustained in combat. While recovering at the Honolulu hospital, Charles displayed his compassionate nature by bringing joy to children in the Pediatric ward through his musical talents. He received a Marine certificate of Commendation for his selfless service to the young patients, playing the guitar and singing to uplift their spirits.

Throughout his life, music remained a cherished part of Charles' existence. He found great joy in playing the guitar for his family and shared his musical gifts with friends Brian Blain and Bill Dean during their performances together. Charles possessed an unwavering love for the mountains, and if given the opportunity, he would spend every day immersed in their beauty. He delighted in taking his family on camping trips, hiking excursions, and fishing adventures, creating lifelong memories. His deep appreciation for the mountains extended to his involvement in community service.

Charles dedicated his time to the Boy Scouts and actively supported the youth in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, fostering their growth and development. Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Jane Brookhouser-Dix. He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Joyce, and their six children: Cathy Glasgow (Brent Julian), Jennifer Peterson (Mark), Kristen Minor (Brad), Amy Vongsawad (Tyler), Marcie Galley (Chad), and Michael Brookhouser (Lauren Foley). He is also survived by his siblings Lynn Brookhouser, Karen (Richard) Madsen, Jim Brookhouser, and Roberta (Russell) Childs, along with 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate nurses and caregivers at Delta Nursing and Rehab and American Care Hospice for their dedicated support and care. 

Charles (Chuck) Lloyd Brookhouser III will be deeply missed, his legacy of love, service, and the joy he brought to others through his music will continue to inspire all those whose lives he touched. Celebration of life with be held on Friday, July 7, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints 650 N. Lovers Lane Visalia, CA 93292.
