Gordon H. McCoy, devoted husband, father and compassionate physician, of Orange, CA, and formerly of Fullerton, CA, died May 7, 2003.
Born December 2, 1925 in Chicago, IL, the youngest of four children. Quigley Preparatory Seminary, Chicago, IL: 1939-43. Three years of service in the Army Air Corps. M.D. from Loyola University Medical School, Chicago, IL, 1952. Internship and General Surgical Residency at Cook County Hospital, Chicago: 1953-59. Anatomy and Physiology Instructor, St. Bernard's Nursing School, Chicago, IL. General Surgery Practice in Illinois and California (St. Jude, Anaheim Memorial, and Martin Luther Hospitals): 1959-1995. Board Certified General Surgeon; Fellow of the American College of Surgeons; Member and Former President of Orange County Surgical Society.
Two decades as a Family Life Lecturer for Catholic teens and parents throughout Southern California, with instruction on raising children and the physical and moral aspects of life.
Married Helen McNally, June 27, 1953. Moved to California in 1960, and lived in Fullerton until 2000, when they moved to Orange, CA.
Retired from surgical practice in 1995 and later earned a Masters Degree in history from California State University, Fullerton.
Survived by his wife, Helen; 11 children, 29 grandchildren, and one sister.
