Joan tutored Summit Junior High School students in English composition, and she was an active Girl Scout leader on both coasts. She became an accomplished artist at the Summit Art Center, an institution she supported by arranging Art Center trips to
museums and galleries in the region.

Joan and Bob traveled extensively, with memorable trips exploring Turkey and China, traversing the Cornwall coast in England, trekking across Nepal in the Himalayas, and cruising down the Danube River.

Joan remained an avid reader, bridge player, and supporter to her 10 grandchildren in the later parts of her life. She also shared her love of games, teaching her children and grandchildren poker and other card games.
