Ellen Jean Graebing Plantenga, 56, of Grass Valley, CA, passed away on September 15, 2008. A beloved mother, wife, sister, daughter, granddaughter, aunt, teacher and friend to all.

She was born to William and Charlene Graebing on August 3, 1952, in Santa Ana, CA. She is the eldest to younger siblings - her sister Nancy and brother Dale. Ellen grew up in Fullerton, CA and graduated from Sunny Hills High School in 1970.

She received her BA and teaching credential from Chico State University in 1975. While in college, Ellen met her husband, Gordon Plantenga, while at a church event in Davis, CA. The two fell in love, and were married on June 29, 1974 in her hometown of Fullerton. The newlyweds moved to Grass Valley, CA where they both found jobs.

Ellen was an elementary and middle school teacher and was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students, but what she loved most of all was being a mother. Ellen and Gordon were blessed with four wonderful daughters - Jennifer Ellen, Michelle Ann, Heather Jean, and Lauren Nancy. She loved raising a family with Gordon and enjoyed many fun and memorable family vacations together.

Ellen loved to travel and pack up and go even if it were only a weekend getaway. Some of her favorite places to go were Lake Tahoe, Disneyland, and anywhere along the Pacific Coast.

She was also a woman of many talents which included; cooking, baking, gardening, helping others in need, tutoring, knitting, sewing, cross-stitching, and many other crafts.

Ellen had an infectious smile that could light up a room, and she could always turn any situation into something fun. She lived every day to the fullest no matter what she was doing.

She will always be missed, but will live on forever in our hearts as she watches over us from above. We love you!! Xoxo

Ellen is survived by her husband Gordon, her daughters Jennifer, Michelle, Heather, and Lauren, her siblings Nancy and Dale, her brothers-in-law Jeff and Norm, her sister-in-law Ruth, her niece Julie, and her nephew Colin.
