My eldest brother, Leonard "John" Neeleman, class of 1964, passed away on August 7, 2023 in Montrose, Colorado. John was both a Varsity swimmer & water polo player at SHHS. Upon graduation, he attended FJC and then received a scholarship for swim and water polo at Colorado State University, Ft. Collins, CO. His team was ranked nationally, and he became an All-American in both swimming & polo. During the summers, he qualified (along with several teammates) as a lifeguard at Huntington Beach State Park, which was one of the most memorable summers of his life. He majored in Forest Management at CSU, & stayed in Colorado, having grown to love the Rocky Mountains, backpacking, skiing & photography. His gorgeous photographs can be seen on his website: https://www.earthscapeimages.com John is survived by his son, Reid Neeleman, of Pennsylvania, and his 4 siblings, all graduates of SHHS: Marilyn ('66), Gloria ('68), Jim ('71) and Jeanne ('72), along with many nieces and nephews.
RIP, John, we all miss you.
