Joseph Hoag, ’73, 1956-2014

 

Joseph Michael Hoag, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully Monday, September 29 at the age of 58 at home in Chico, CA. 

 

Joe was born on October 26, 1956 to his parents Edward and Anne Hoag in Orange, CA. Joe lived in Southern California during his childhood. He graduated in 1973 from Sunny Hills High School, where he was an avid water polo player. Joe felt at peace at the beach bodysurfing, skiing in Tahoe, as well as listening to music. 

 

After graduating high school, Joe moved north with his girlfriend Marilyn Agerholm. They moved to Chico where they attended California State University, Chico. Joe graduated from CSU Chico in 1978 with a degree in History. Learning about the world was a lifelong passion. Joe married Marilyn Agerholm on January 27, 1979 in Chico, CA. 

 

After getting married Joe began his career in building and remodeling homes in Chico and the surrounding area. He dedicated his life to working hard and creating his dreams. Joe was an athlete at heart and loved sports. He especially enjoyed soccer, football, and baseball. He was a lifelong Dodger fan. 

 

In addition, Joe was involved with coaching and volunteering for Chico youth sports including soccer, softball, baseball, and Butte United soccer. In which, all three of his children participated. 

 

Joe loved spending his time traveling the world with his family. They recently were able to travel to Europe and Alaska. At home he enjoyed spending his time in the company of family, friends, and his dogs and cats. 

 

Joe is survived by his wife Marilyn Hoag of Chico, CA; his son Nick Hoag of Chico, CA; his daughters, Natalie and Katie Hoag of Truckee, CA; and his sisters, Jane Neuharth and Candace Hoag of Olympia, WA. Please join the family for a celebration of Joe's life, to be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 25, 2014 at the 5 Mile recreation area in Bidwell Park. Joe passed from Multiple System Atrophy.
