Leroy "Lee" Myron Perkins, Overland Park, KS/Janesville (1924 - 2008)
February 29, 1924 - January 25, 2008

Lee was born on Feb. 29, 1924, and quietly passed away on the morning of Jan. 25, 2008, just shy of his 84th birthday. Born in Janesville, WI, he married Arla Dickerson in 1946. They lived most of their lives in Fullerton, CA, moved to Cincinnati, and upon retiring from Gibson Greeting Cards, they moved to Overland Park, KS.

Lee served in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II, serving in the Pacific, including Guadalcanal as a turret gunner on SBD’s and SB2C’s.

Lee was an accomplished musician, having played drums with Stan Kenton, Dave Brubeck and other jazz greats. At one time, he was under contract with RCA in The Lyle Odin Trio.

He was also an artist, having designed the logo that can be seen on the newspaper in Corona Del Mar, CA.

One of Lee’s greatest passions was golf! He had several hole-in-ones to his credit, including one from over 200 yards!

Lee was preceded in death by his wife, Arla, who passed away in 1994, who he missed terribly; and his brother, Ronald “Pete” Perkins.

Lee leaves a large and loving family: brother, Charles “Chuck” Perkins (Jennie); daughter, Marcia Olaskowitz (Jerry) of Overland Park, KS; daughter, Jennene Lehmann [SHHS '68] (Ken) of Santee, CA; and son, Steven Nagle-Perkins (Mary) of Dallas, TX.

Missing him as well are 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 3 nephews and 3 nieces. Memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare of Kansas City or your local Hospice.
