Randolph Ritchey (no middle name) was the second son of Gilbert Lawrence Ritchey (1878 - 1952) and Bessie Virginia (Settle) Ritchey (1880 - 1909).
 
Very shortly after his birth in Waukegan, Illinois, his family moved to Los Angeles, California. His mother died of tuberculosis in Los Angeles, at age 28, just 8-1/2 months after his birth. His father remarried about 3 years later, and he was raised by his step-mother Clara (Mason) Ritchey (1886 - 1953). 
 
He attended Hollywood High School, and graduated from the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles.
 
Randolph Ritchey married Ruth Elizabeth Button (1916 - 2001), and they had four children together: Charles Randolph Ritchey, Robyn Summers (né Robert Steven Ritchey), and twins George Lawrence and John Stewart Ritchey.
 
He and his family resided in Fullerton, California, where he worked as an architect.

Ruth Elizabeth (Button) Ritchey was the daughter of William Wilfred "Stewart" Button (1884 - 1945) and Sadie Arabella (Montgomery) Button (1890 - 1962).
 
She married Randolph Ritchey (1908 - 1976), and had four children: Charles Randolph Ritchey, Robyn Summers (né Robert Steven Ritchey), and twins George Lawrence and John Stewart Ritchey.
