Mr. and Mrs. Fiorini, RIP
Parents of Gail and Patricia, ‘68

 

 

Mrs. Dorothy Claire Smither Fiorini, 81, was born in San Jose, Calif., on May 28, 1926, and passed away on Aug. 2, 2007, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Etna, Calif. Dorothy lived in Chico from 1971 to 2001. 

 

She grew up in Palo Alto, Calif., and met her husband Louis M. Fiorini while he was attending Officer Candidate School at Stanford University. They were married July 30, 1944, at Camp Lee, Va.

 

After the war, Dorothy and Lou moved to Boston while Lou completed his MBA at Harvard. The couple returned to California where they made their home in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 1971, they moved to Chico where the couple went into business and where Dorothy became a real estate agent. 

 

Dorothy was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church for 33 years, a volunteer for the Enloe Hospital Auxiliary, a member of a service sorority, and a member of Friends of Library. Always a gracious hostess, Dorothy ("Dottie") was a wonderful cook and loved nothing more than to gather friends and family around her. She was quick to laugh and was an avid gardener, traveler and artist. 

 

In 1997, Lou died suddenly. In 2001, Dorothy moved to Etna, Calif. 

 

Dorothy is survived by her daughters and their families: Teresa and Mark Davis, of Chico, Pat (Fiorini, ’68) and Todd Peterson, formerly of Chico, now of Etna, Gail (Fiorini, ’68) and Doug Jenner, of Etna. She leaves nine grandchildren: Tricia (Jenner) Laustalot and family; Nick Jenner and family; Matthew Jenner; Stephanie and Todd Burton; Megan, Kyle, Christian, and Tyler Peterson. She also leaves three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was a beloved grandma and great-grandma and was the happiest in their presence.

 

Dorothy was interred at Etna Cemetery on Aug. 5, 2007. a Memorial Celebration of her Life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, at 11 am, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 2341 Floral Ave., Chico. 

 

The family asks that any memorial contributions be made to Madrone Hospice, 255 Collier Circle, Yreka, CA, 96097, or to St. John's Episcopal Sunday School Program. For more information on the service, call 894-1971.

He died on June 29, 1997 in Butte County California.
