Mr. John E. Dewey, 1928-2015

 

Educator John E. Dewey, 86, of Mission Viejo, formerly of Fullerton, passed away at home on July 22,  2015 with his family nearby. 

 

John was born on August 29, 1928 in Erie, PA, and served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force. He then moved to CA where he met and married his wife, Yvonne in 1953. Shortly after, the couple moved to Fullerton, where they made many friends and raised their family of 5 children. 

 

John is survived by Steve (Debra) of Fullerton, Yvette Robinson (Mark) of Oro Valley, AZ, and John W. (Jenny) of San Clemente. Sons, Alan and David predeceased John. Also surviving are grandchildren, Chad, Danielle, Derek, Ryan, Lauren, Emily, Cade, Reese and Lindsey, and one great-grandchild, MacKenzie. 

 

John's life work was dedicated to education. He earned his degrees from Cal State Fullerton. He was a business education teacher for many years at Sunny Hills High School. He founded the ROP Career Education Foundation and was instrumental in the development of North Orange County ROP as Director of Educational Services for many years until his retirement. 

 

John and Yvonne enjoyed retirement, moving to Mission Viejo in 2005. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 15, 2:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church, 838 N. Euclid St., Fullerton. 

 

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to the Career Education Foundation, specifically the Dewey Memorial Scholarship. The address is Career Education Foundation c/o North Orange County ROP, 385 N. Muller St., Anaheim, 92801. 

 

John will be missed by many friends, family and co-workers.
