Mr. James C. Reeder, 1930-2020
Sunny Hills High School Math Teacher, 1961-1962 to 1967-1968.

 

A long time resident and educator passed away April 20, 2020. He resided in Mililani and taught at Honolulu Community College from 1968 to 1994. Born in Los Angeles in 1930, he graduated from the University of California in Los Angeles and later obtained his Masters from Washington State University in Pullman, Washington.

 

His love of learning inspired many during his lifetime. 

 

He is preceded in death by his wife Janice and survived by his daughter Kathleen Reeder Hassler of Scottsdale, AZ and his son Richard Reeder of Mililani.

 

Burial services will be private.

Mr. Reeder was a wonderful man and teacher who had a terrific sense of humor. He believed mathematics should also be fun as well as serious. When he gave a big test to his students, he often gave the test a name, like “The Green Eyed Martians Versus the Quadratic Equation Demons”, as if it were a horror movie. He would write the name and the cast on the blackboard and everyone enjoyed it,

Everyone liked Mr. Reeder and he was well-known on campus between 1961-1962 and 1967-1968. Dozens of his Lancer students became mathematicians, math professors, scientists, engineers, physicians, dentists, accountants, and computer programmers, as well as many other professions,
