Mr. Gerald "Jerry" Gromwall, 91, a Fullerton resident since 1950, passed away June 12, 2013 from natural causes. Jerry was born in Algona, Iowa in 1922, graduated from Algona High School in 1940.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942, serving on convoy duty in the Atlantic for three years and one year in the South Pacific. Upon discharge, he was a market manager in South Dakota and Iowa.
In 1950, Jerry and his wife, Rosalie, and two sons moved to Fullerton, California, where he owned and operated a grocery market for 12 years.
In 1983, he retired from the Fullerton Joint Union High School District as the Risk Management Administrator.
Jerry was a charter life member of the Fullerton Elks Lodge #1993 and a parishioner of the First Lutheran Church in Fullerton.
His wife preceded him in death in 2003, as did grandson Jason in February of this year. He is survived by sons, Jim of Fullerton and Tom of Magalia, California, five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m., July 13 at the First Lutheran Church, Fullerton CA. Dr. Richard Martin, Pastor of First Lutheran, will be officiating. A "Celebration of Life" party will be held following the service in honor of Jerry and grandson Jason at the home of Jim and Kae Gronwall.
The family requests no flowers. Memorials can be directed to the Nature Conservancy of which Jerry was a member for many years. His ashes will be scattered at sea.
