Mr. Vernon Wrightson, 1923-2003
Mr. Wrightson taught and coached at FUHS for many years, and then at Sunny Hills.

Vernon Edward Wrightson, 80, died of natural causes peacefully in his sleep. In keeping with his wishes there will be no services. He was born on June 9, 1923 and died on September 27, 2003.

Vern was a 50 year resident of Fullerton, having been born the youngest of six children to Alice and Arthur Wrightson in his hometown, Santa Barbara. All have preceded him in death.

He met his wife Lola, while both attended UCSB where he played baseball. Later Vern earned his masters degree from USC. He was an Air Force pilot during WWII stationed in Alaska, where he flew P-38's. A retired teacher with the Fullerton Union High School District, Vern taught many Fullerton High students how to drive. He coached football, baseball, basketball and taught shop classes.

His final teaching years were at Sunny Hills.

In his retirement he enjoyed fishing and his Tuesday golf outings. Vern liked to "cruise" around in his red truck. He'd go by all of his buddies' houses. If you were outside he'd stop…if not, he'd keep on cruisin'.

Vern is survived by his wife of 53 years Lola, their 4 children and families: Terry, John, Erin and Sean Christensen, Sherry and Mark Moranville, Tracy and Chris Baker and Ross, Karean, Danielle and Alec Wrightson.

Published in Orange County Register on Sept. 30, 2003.
