Mrs. Evelyn Balgrosky,RIP

Balgrosky, Evelyn Margaret Cook ("Cookie"), beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother; Evelyn Balgrosky passed away July 5, 2007 at her home in Fullerton, CA at age 87.

Born March 26, 1920, in Chicago, IL, the second child of Elmer Christian Cook and Della Muellman Cook. Attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville, IL, graduated University of Illinois at Champagne-Urbana in 1941.

Married in 1943 to her life-long love Steven A. Balgrosky (who affectionately called her "Cookie") until his death in 1999.

Evelyn worked as a chemist in textile labs of Sears, Roebuck in Chicago and married Steve in 1943 at Camp Stewart, GA. After 2 ½ years overseas in WWII, Steve spent three years in recovery from serious war injuries. They settled in LaGrange Highlands, IL, where they raised three children and Steve began his 33-year career with Sears Roebuck in Chicago and LA.

In 1957 they moved to Fullerton, where Evelyn was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church for 50 years. As a couple, they were active in establishing and running the Continuing Learning Experience (CLE) program at Cal State Fullerton, for which they jointly received the Volunteer of the Year Award in 1990.

They traveled extensively in Europe and North America with CLE, including four trips to the British Isles. Evelyn loved music, dancing, reading and knitting sweaters and afghans for all family members. She played bridge and kept physically active all her life. She spent her time caring for and helping family and friends, and those lucky enough to be in her life will always cherish her warm smile and loving countenance.

Evelyn is survived by her three children, Wendy, Steve and Jean; eight grandchildren, Robyn, Jessica, Wyatt, Christian (CJ), Steven, Melissa, Seth and Sarah; and six great-grandchildren, Connor, Katie, Jack, Spencer, Scott and Maya.

We will forever hold her loving way, strength of character, values and goodness in our hearts. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Virginia K. My name is Jennene (Perkins) Lehmann and I went to SHHS with Mrs. Balgrosky's son, Steve. (I hope he remembers my name; we weren't really close in High School.) I want to express my sympathy at his mother's passing; I lost my mom in '94, so I know how he feels.
Steve and I apparently also went to the same church, and my children were baptized there, as well. (I live near San Diego now.)
Again, my condolences. I would love to have Steve contact me, if he wishes to.
Thank you,
Jennene
