Joshin Robert Althouse
As many of you know, our friend Bob has been a Zen Buddhist priest since the late 60s

To make a long story short, Joshin Robert became interested in Buddhism and after losing several members of his family to traffic accidents where the other drivers were DUI. He studied Buddhism ay the Los Angeles Zen Center for many years. He is a Buddhist priest.

Approximately 10 to 15 years ago, Joshin Robert moved to Hawaii where he founded a Zen Center. His guiding interest had now expanding to teaching peace, which he does to this day in speaking engagements and seminars all over the US and abroad.

His talks and the methods he teaches are down to earth, pragmatic and told in clear, understandable English. He describes, for example, how violence is not only a physical act, but may also be words, intention or even simply thoughts. Joshin Robert has written dozens of essays and given us permission to republish them here. Importantly, a person doesn't have to be a Buddhist to attend his teachings, or read or benefit from them. He considers his audience to be all human beings.

After Hawaii, Joshin Robert founded a Zen and peace center in Santa Barbara, CA with his wife. Then several years ago they moved to Oak Park, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, to found a Zen and peace center there.

Joshin Robert has often told me and other '60s Lancers that he remembers his Fullerton friends with affection. He wanted to attend the 2002 and 2007 '67 reunions but each time had scheduling difficulties.
