Rob Allingham '66 video interview
Over his long career in South Africa, Rob has been a librarian and archivist of musical recordings by African singers and musicians, and has been employed by a large media corporation affiliated with the federal government. As such, he has been a music critic, historian, writer and educator, as well as an authority on African music. He speaks the Afrikaans language fluently and has some proficiency with other local languages. Rob attended UC Irvine for 2 years, and then at UC Berkeley, graduating with a BA in History. He has also worked in the railroad industry. He and his wife have 3 children. He has been a railroad enthusiast and 78 RPM record collector since early adolescence.
