Remember these songs?
Since “Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music” was released in April 1962, we’ve heard Ray Charles sing “Born To Lose” and “I Can’t Stop Loving You” thousands of times. They feature some of the most bleak, desolate lyrics in all of American music
"Born to lose, I've lived my life in vain
Every dream has only brought me pain"
"I said I made up my mind
To live in memories of the lonesome times"
I first heard these songs as a Nicolas Junior High student, and I didn’t realize until much later that they were country-western songs, recorded by others before Ray.
Since junior high is the first approach to adulthood and responsibility, and learning how to deal with the opposite sex, I listened to these songs and concluded, “Many, this is going be a struggle!” I saw cute girls all around me, girls I wanted to kiss and hold, but as a 100% green, wet-behind-the-ears 12 year-old boy, I had no idea how to get started. Ha ha.
