Shirley Ann Donnelly, 73, of Fullerton, earned her wings in the early morning of March 10, 2023, after a 5-month illness, with her daughter and son-in-law by her side.
Shirley was born on October 31, 1949, in Spokane, WA, to Gladys M. Walker and Fredrick P. Hesch. Her family relocated to Southern California, where she discovered her passion for dance, leading to her taking lessons in her teen years at a prestigious Hollywood studio and having many great experiences on stage. She graduated from Sunny Hills High School in Fullerton, CA, in 1967.
Shirley worked in the Coast Community College District or 39 years, working her way up from a part-time registration assistant to the Director of Admissions and Records at Golden West College. During those many years, she loved helping “her”students navigate their community college experience.
After retirement, Shirley spent countless hours with her granddaughters (Camryn and Caitlyn). She supported them in anything they wanted or needed to do. Whether it be driving them back and forth to school, attending their sports, choir, and dance activities, or providing advice to guide them through their educational journeys … you name it, she was there for them!
Shirley was selfless, always putting others before herself. She even kept a stockpile of gifts ready, so she was sure to have something for every person and every event on the horizon.
Shirley was predeceased by her father, Fredrick P. Hesch. She is survived by her mother, Gladys M. Walker; her daughter, Heather Rocha (son-in-law Nathan Rocha); granddaughters, Camryn and Caitlyn Chesney; her brother Fredrick M. Hesch;her sister, Cynthia Germain; nieces. nephews and countless friends.
Those who knew her know how strong-willed she was and how hard she fought to stay here … not for her, but for us. She will be deeply missed.
Per her wishes, there will not be a formal service for her.
